Background and Achievements
In September 2014, Augmate raised a $2.8 million seed round of financing. Investors included UPS Strategic Enterprise Fund, Siemens Venture Capital, Simon Venture Group, Rothenberg Ventures, Excell Partners, Camp One Ventures, FP Angels, and more.
In October 2014, Augmate became a Certified Glass at Work Partner, which is the developer network authorized to deliver enterprise solutions for Google Glass.
Challenges to be Addressed by AR
Our mission at Augmate is to better understand and improve unstructured work processes. Currently, work processes exist on a spectrum that ranges from highly structured to highly unstructured.
Businesses have long invested in discovering new methods and solutions to help improve productivity in highly or moderately structured work. However, increasing productivity in highly unstructured work has proven difficult, since most factors that influence the work process remain unknown.
Augmate recognizes the vast potential that wearable technology has to increase task efficiency, inventory accuracy, and safety in the workplace. Our platform captures relevant sensor data and provides deskless workers with timely, context-aware insights to enable them to optimize their performances.
One major challenge in our industry is integrating our software with ergonomic, functional hardware. Since we mainly work with early stage technology, there are still a lot of things that need to be refined and optimized before wearable devices can be deployed en masse. We believe that wearable technology will first thrive in the enterprise space before it’s consumerized.
Why AR is a Strategic Area
AR is a strategic area for our industry and organization because it allows people to visualize and interact with existing data in a way they have never done before. Bringing AR to wearable tech allows people to access relevant information quickly and without having to interrupt ongoing tasks. With wearable technology, the world itself becomes a database of information that enables workers to make better decisions on the job and to optimize safety conditions.
